Municipal Voters

Municipal Elections are held every four (4) years on the first Monday in November. The next scheduled Municipal Election is Monday, November 2, 2026. 

During an official election, there are three Advance Voting days scheduled in addition to Election Day to help make it easier for you to vote. Dates, times and locations of voting days will be available on the Voter Information Card (VIC).

Advance Voting Dates 
First Advance Poll - Saturday, October 24, 2026,  9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Second Advance Poll - Monday, October 26, 2026, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Third Advance Poll - Friday, October 30, 2026 , 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Qualifications of electors :
Unless otherwise disqualified, a person is entitled to vote at an election in a municipality if the person
(a) is a Canadian citizen;
(b) is at least 18 years of age, or will attain that age on or before election day;
(c) has resided in the province for at least the six-month period immediately preceding election day; and
(d) is ordinarily resident in the municipality on election day

Remember to bring your Identification along with your Voter Information Card when you go to vote in person at the polling location.  You need to show proof of "who" you are and "where" you live. A valid PEI Drivers License or a Gov't Issued ID card are the best forms of ID to use when voting.

As per the   Municipal Elections Regulations (PDF) Section 53 (2) Every elector shall provide to the deputy returning officer as proof of identity and place of residence:
(a) one piece of identification issued by the Government of Canada or of the Province of Prince Edward Island that establishes the elector’s name and address; or
(b) any two pieces of other identification or documentation, each of which establishes the elector’s name and at least one of which establishes the elector’s address.

There is a commitment to provide equal access to vote for all eligible electors. Mobile voting stations are available to residents in hospitals and long-term care centres to allow easier and, if necessary, bedside voting.

At each polling station voters are entitled to receive special services as requested or as required to be able to vote, including:

• Accessibility – Every polling station and voting booth is wheelchair friendly. We also offer help for difficulties with vision or hearing, low literacy.
• Voting Assistance – A deputy returning officer or friend may assist a voter in marking their ballot if the voter requests help. The voter will be asked to take an oath or make a special statement.
• Language Assistance – A voter who is unable to understand English for any reason, i.e. difficulty with vision or hearing, low literacy level, speaks another language, may bring another person to interpret and join them in the voting station to help with marking their ballot.
