FAQs on VICs

What is a VIC?
VIC is an acronym for Voter Information Card vic

What is a VIC used for?
A VIC is used by a voter at a polling location.  The information on the VIC shows your residential address.
The VIC is scanned to show you came in to vote and marked as “having voted”.

What information is on my VIC?
Your VIC is an individualized document and will display your legal name and your residential address.  It also displays the electoral district and poll you live in according to your civic address. The VIC also lists all voting dates for Advance Voting and Election Day Voting, along with the location of the polling station you are to vote according to your civic address.

Can I keep my VIC after I vote?
No.  The VIC is exchanged for a ballot for you to vote.

What if I don’t receive my VIC?
If you are on the voter’s list and do not receive a VIC you can still vote. Just make sure you bring your Identification when you go to vote to prove who you are and where you live.  A replacement VIC will be issued to you at the poll location to exchange for your ballot.

I’m not on the voter’s list so I didn’t get a VIC. Can I Still vote?
You are eligible to vote as long as you are:

  • Age 18 years old, or will be on Election Day
  • A Canadian citizen on or before Election Day
  • Living in PEI for the six months immediately before the date of the election
  • Living in the polling district on the date of the election

Bring the Acceptable ID to the polling location. You will be added to the voter registry, issued a VIC which you will exchange for your ballot.

My spouse/other family members received their VIC but I didn’t get mine. What should I do?
Sometimes mail gets diverted and does not arrive as expected. In this circumstance, you can still vote. Just bring your Identification with you to the Polling Station.  You will be issued a replacement VIC to exchange for your ballot.

I received someone else’s VIC in my mailbox from a former owner/tenant of my property. What should I do?
Just tear it up and throw the VIC in the paper trash.  That person cannot use it to vote if they have moved. They would be issued a replacement VIC when they go to vote.

I applied and will be voting by using the Mail In Ballot.  My VIC arrived in the mail. What should I do with it?
Just tear it up and throw it in the paper trash.  Once you vote by Mail In Ballot you are marked in our system as “having voted”, and the VIC cannot be used.
