2008 School Trustee Elections
School Trustee Elections were held on Prince Edward Island on Monday,
May 26, 2008.
A total of 29 trustees were elected or acclaimed to the three School
Boards/Districts. Nominations closed at 4:00 PM on Friday, May 9,
2008.
School Trustee Elections on PEI
In 1996 Elections P.E.I. was commissioned by the Department of
Education to design and describe electoral zones within the three Island
school districts/boards for the purpose of dividing the boards into
zones for electing trustees to the boards.
Since 1996, Elections P.E.I. has conducted the School Trustee Elections
for the Eastern School District, the Western School Board and the French
Language School Board.
The breakdown of the 29 trustee positions that were filled by the election
process is as follows:
- The Eastern School District contains eleven zones, (including the City
of Charlottetown) and one trustee will be elected in each zone.
- The Western School Board contains nine electoral zones, (including the
City of Summerside) and one trustee will be elected in each zone.
- The French Language School Board contains a total of six electoral
zones across the province and will elect a total of nine trustees to the
Board; three from zone 1 (the Evangeline Region); one each from zone 2
(West Prince), zone 3 (East Prince), and zone 4 (North Shore), two
from zone 5 (Central Queens including the City of
Charlottetown) and one from zone 6 (Souris East).
