Chief Electoral Officer - appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council (The Cabinet) on the address of the Assembly as an officer of the Legislative Assembly, with overall responsibility for the conduct of elections through the administration of the Prince Edward Island Election Act.
Returning Officers - appointed by Lieutenant Governor in Council for each of the 27 electoral districts in the Province and responsible, under the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer, for the conduct of elections in the electoral district.
Election Clerk - hired by each Returning Officer to assist in the performance of assigned duties in each electoral district.
Confirmation Officers - persons hired by the Returning Officer from lists submitted by the political parties or candidates to prepare the preliminary lists of electors in each polling division of the electoral districts.
Deputy Returning Officers - hired for each polling division by the Returning Officers from lists submitted by the political parties or candidates and responsible for the conduct of the election at the polling station.
Poll Clerk - hired by the Returning Officer from lists submitted by the political parties or candidates to assist the Deputy Returning Officer at each polling place.
Agent (Scrutineer) - a person who is hired by a candidate or his official designate to represent the candidate at the polling place. Not more than one agent per candidate is permitted to remain in the polling place at any one time while the polling place is open. After the close of the poll, during the count of ballots only, up to two agents per candidate are permitted to be present. All agents must take an oath of secrecy and show their proof of appointment to the Deputy Returning Officer.
Elector - any person who is entitled to vote at an election.
Voter - any person who is entitled to vote at an election.
Constable - the Returning Officer may acquire a person to act as a constable to maintain peace and good order at the election polling station. Where two or more polling stations are held in the same facility, a constable assists electors in determining the polling station where the elector should vote.
