Municipal elections on Prince Edward Island for all municipalities with the exception of Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford, Cornwall, and the Resort Municipality are currently scheduled every three years, on the first Monday in November. The next municipal elections are scheduled for Monday, November 5, 2012.

In 1994 Elections Prince Edward Island ran the first municipal elections on Prince Edward Island prior to the amalgamation of the two cities and the two larger towns.
Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall each have their own Election By-laws. Elections PEI conducts the municipal elections in the two cities and the two towns. Also, this office oversees and trains returning officers for the municipal elections held in the smaller towns and 63 communities.
