School Trustee Elections
The school trustee is a decision-maker, acting in concert with other trustees on the board and as an agent of the Minister of Education, Early Learning and Culture, working to ensure the Education Act, regulations and Minister's Directives are followed.
Since 1996, Elections PEI has conducted School Trustee Elections in Prince Edward Island. The primary purpose of the elected school trustee is to represent the parents and the needs of the school children. Trustees participate in the discussions and decisions of the school board. Federal and provincial legislation describe the responsibilities of the school trustee as being to:
- attend meetings of the school boards and exercise the powers and the duties of a trustee in good faith.
- comply with the requirements of the regulations concerning conflict of interest.
- comply with all the requirements of the Education Act, the Regulations and Minister's directives.
