Prince Edward Island's electoral financial legislation currently does not limit the amount of contributions a registered political party or candidate may collect. However, where a contribution of more than $25 is made to a registered party or candidate, the official agent shall issue a receipt in the form prescribed under the Income Tax Act (Election Expenses Act - section 11.2).
A single contribution in excess $25 or contributions from a single source that in the aggregate exceed $25, the official agent of such registered party or registered candidate, as the case may be, shall record all such contributions (Election Expenses Act - section 16.1).
In the case of a single contribution in excess of $250 or contributions from a single source that in aggregate exceed $250. The official agent must provide the Chief Electoral Officer with the name and address of all contributors in excess of $250 (Election Expenses Act -section 16.1).
In accordance with the Election Expenses Act, the official agent of every registered political party shall, on or before May 31 in each year, file with the Chief Electoral Officer a record of contributions (Election Expenses Act - section 20.2).
